Thanksgiving-Helping Ourselves by Helping Others

No one in this world is worry free. Sometimes we do not appreciate all the good fortune we have. There is no person in this world that does not have any problems or worries. We all have different kinds of issues that are of a concern for us. Each of us has our own unique set of problems. However we must always be grateful for all the good things in our lives. We must appreciate even the simplest of blessings which we might take for granted. We have to be thankful for our good fortune. We all have something that many others do not.

The origins of Thanksgiving go as far back as the early 1600’s in Plymouth, Massachusetts when the pilgrims prepared a feast that they shared with the Native Americans out of thanks for the prosperity that they found through hard work in the new found land of America. The idea is to cherish the fruits of our labor, share our blessings with the less fortunate and be grateful.

Thanksgiving is marked by a grand feast that families, loved ones and friends share together. There might be variations in the kind of sweet and savory edibles that families all over America eat but the staple food that every Thanksgiving has is a tasty roasted stuffed turkey. Usually the stuffed turkey is accompanied by mash potatoes with gravy, seasonal vegetables and sweet corn. There is also cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie as well.

It is not just the families that enjoy a delicious meal. This is the time of the year when those that have more than others or have sufficient disposable income to contribute in some way all pitch in to feed the less fortunate. It is a time when we all make a conscious effort to feel true gratitude. It is an attempt to bring happiness to those that have less than us.

The idea behind this tradition has a very positive impact on all of us. It is a time when we all spread a feeling of happiness and appreciation. It is a very emotionally gratifying tradition. By helping those that do not have enough we allow ourselves to be less concerned with our problems and feel a influx of positive energy that overpowers our worries. This helps us feel better by lowering our stress levels through sharing a day when we try to bring happiness to all with a delicious feast and a kind smile. Thanksgiving is a tradition by which our kind acts for others help us feel better.

Among recent additions to the tradition of Thanksgiving is the inclusion of football games played at this occasion. The National Football League and university level football games are broadcasted for all to enjoy being a popular pastime of American culture. Thanksgiving is a national holiday, so many of the famous Television shows are aired on this occasion as well.

We work hard to progress, full fill our responsibilities and overcome any obstacles life throws at us. This is one of the few moments when we can rid our minds of such thoughts and be great full to share a meal with others
