Homer Dodge Martin (1836-1897) Homer Dodge Martin was a founding member of the Society of American Artists in 1878. Born in Albany, New York on October 28, 1836, Martin was considered an innovative landscape painter. He studied in New York City and had a professional friendship with the artist Whistler. Homer Dodge Martin spent the latter part of his life in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he continued to work despite progressive blindness. Martin died in St. Paul in 1897.
