Laura Frykman
Although I always knew I had a knack for realism, it wasnt until my senior year of college that I realized that art was truly my calling and home. What followed was years of exploring what art meant to me, teaching myself abstraction, and fitting in art classes in between work and parenting. I have earned the equivalent of a 2nd BA in fine art, from MCAD, the University of Minnesota, and especially 2 years at the Minnesota River School of Fine Art, where I honed my skills as a classical realist. Several workshops with nationally known painters such as Richard Whitney, Timothy Tyler and Albert Handell have enriched my technique and challenged me to continual growth.
I seek to convey a sense of mystery and movement, in addition to the realistic space and sense of groundedness traditionally seen in landscapes. The play of color, the rich textures and various techniques I can use to convey this with pastels all interest me, and that is my primary medium. I also paint with oils, particularly for plein air winterscapes and florals, and am continually studying the nude in all mediums.
