Dana H. Carlson
Many of the forms found in Dana Carlsons work are ambiguous, reflecting a feeling captured in time rather than a specific scene. He often explores solitude and remembrance. Many of his scenes reveal the same figure or theme--varying in perspective, color, and mood. His tremendous sense of color is one of his greatest strengths as an artist. Carlson works primarily in pastel and mixed media, but occasionally ventures in oil. He has a unique method of pastel application and often incorporates watercolor, gouache, and metallic pigment. Carlson was born in 1949 in Lincoln, Nebraska. After one year at Nebraska Wesleyan University, he came to Minnesota and enrolled in Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCDA). Through an MCDA program he attended Rieveldt Academie in Amsterdam Holland on scholarship. During this year he traveled and sketched extensively throughout Europe discovering first-hand the Impressionistic masterpieces that remain a great influence on his work today. He graduated from the MCDA in 1972. Vern Carver gave Carlson his first one-man show in June of 1984. In recent years Carlson has gained a national presence and has sold his art to enthusiastic collectors coast to coast. As you might imagine, Carlson is quite introspective and continues to reveal his newest personal discoveries through his work. Yellow Sea oil glazes 9-1/2 x 13 $1,450
