Dewey Albinson  (1898-1971)

Dewey Albinson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1898. 
He attended the Minneapolis School of Art in 1919 and was able to continue his studies on an
Art Students League scholarship in New York City.  Albinson also spent two years studying painting in France and two more years working in Italy.

From 1926-1929, Dewey Albinson was both the director and teacher at the St. Paul School for Art.  He was state director of the Educational Division for the Works Progress Administration Art Center from 1935-1937.  During this time Albinson painted murals for post offices in Cloquet, Minnesota and Marquette, Michigan.  After the WPA, Dewey Albinson became president of the Minnesota Art Association from 1937-1938.
